Ancillary furniture has become one of the biggest trends in office design.
Ancillary furniture applications support us as work becomes more mobile and we transition from a traditional work zone – desk, chair, storage – to spaces that are more relaxed, flexible and encourage different ways of working. As lounge style furniture continues shift, enhance and expand the office design market, terms like “resi-mmercial” and “third space movement” are becoming more common.
Recently, our Boston Design Team Leader had the opportunity to attend both NeoCon in Chicago and the high-end, European-influenced International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) at the Javits Center in New York City. She saw a plethora of new and modern furniture that can expand the offerings for lounge style office furniture market, as well as influence our thinking about ancillary furniture and accessories.
NOTABLE TRENDS FROM NEOCON AND ICFF:
- Metallics: gold, blush, rust and black finishes
- Natural materials: live-edge wood and leather
- Velvet upholstery
- Colored paints on wire bases for side chairs
- More advanced height-adjustable benching with wire management troughs
- Curved screens on height-adjustable desks
- Slim pedestals with easy access to accessory drawers
- Low storage walls for space division
- Easy-to-maneuver agile partitions for unplanned privacy
- Stand-alone quiet spaces
What do you think about ancillary furniture? How can it benefit your workplace?
We’d love to help you design the next “third space” at your workplace!
